NATIONAL PARK Juan Pablo Penaloza (Moorlands Battalion and La Negra)
Location:	Mérida and Táchira States
Area:	75,200 hectares
Declaration:	Decree No. 2716 of 18 January 1989. Official Gazette No. 34,148 of 31 January 1989.
Protected ecosystems and important natural attractions:	Evergreen forests Andean highlands.
Wildlife:	Machicolation deer (Mazama americana), bear (Tremarctos ornatus), Andean guan (Penelope Montagnier).
Flora:	Endemic species: Elaphoglossum Tachira, Bomarea oligantha, Espeletiopsis meridensis, E. tachirensis, Ruilopezia cuatrecasü, R. Jahnu, R. leucantina and R. marcescens.
Water resources:	Glacial lakes give rise to many rivers that drain into the basins Uribante River and into Lake Maracaibo.
