      Mérida and Táchira States
      Area:
      75,200 hectares
      Declaration:
      Decree No. 2716 of 18 January 1989.
      Official Gazette No. 34,148 of 31 January 1989.
      Protected ecosystems and important natural attractions:
      Evergreen forests Andean highlands.
      Wildlife:
      Machicolation deer (Mazama americana), bear (Tremarctos ornatus), Andean guan (Penelope Montagnier).
      Flora:
      Endemic species: Elaphoglossum Tachira, Bomarea oligantha, Espeletiopsis meridensis, E. tachirensis, Ruilopezia cuatrecasü, R. Jahnu, R. leucantina and R. marcescens.
      Water resources:
      Glacial lakes give rise to many rivers that drain into the basins Uribante River and into Lake Maracaibo.
      Tourist attractions:
      • The Porqueras Recreation Area, located in La Grita.
      • India Recreation Area Cascade Carú or dancers.
      • Moorlands Battalion, The Black, Colorado, San Telmo, the buzzer.
      • San Pedro de Guaraque.
      • Loma Negra.
      • Loma del Caballo.
      • Laguna Negra.
      • The lily and Lagunas Brava.
      • Nieto corner.
      Activities Permitted:
      Trekking hiking, picnicking, climbing, trout fishing, camping, scientific research.
      Prohibited Activities:
      Commercial fishing, hunting, extraction of flora and fauna, the discharge of pollutants to water courses, athletic competitions to concentrate large numbers of people, movement of motorcycles on the roads and pedestrian droves.
      Schedules and fares:
      The schedule of visits to the park is from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm You must cancel the following charges: Parking any vehicle Bs 300. Hikers Bs 500. Tents Bs 1,500. Kiosks Bs 1,000.
