Wildlife: | Extraordinarily rich fauna. The mammals include the manatee (Trichechus manatus), the large water dog (Pteronura brasiliensis) and small (Lutra longicaudis), the capybara (Hydrochaeris hydrochaeris). Birds like herons palette (Ajaia ajaja), Corocoro red (Scarlet Ibis), frigate (Fregata magnificens). Osprey (Pandion haliaetus). Reptiles include the baba (Caiman crocodilus), anaconda (Eunectes murinus). The fish are of great importance, highlighting the Caribs, catfish, and bass guabinas. | Flora: | Rich in palms (Mauritia flexuosa and Euterpe oleracea) and mangrove (Rhizophora mangle, Avicennia nitida, Laguncularia racemosa). Other species: Pterocarpus officinalis.
