      NATIONAL PARK

      Location:
      Mérida and Trujillo
      Surface:
      200,400 hectares.
      Statement:
      Decree No. 640 of 07 December 1989.
      Gaceta Oficial No. 34439 of 29 March 1990.
      Protected ecosystems and natural attractions relevant:
      Evergreen forests, moors Andean paramos including desert. Periglacial gaps.
      Wildlife:
      Lapa (Agouti paca), jaguar (Panthera onca), Frontino bear (ornatus Tremarctos) Condor of the Andes (Vultur gryphus).
      Flora:
      The vegetation is characterized by the presence of numerous species of the genus frailejones and Espeletia Coespeletia. Among the highlights composite shrubs, and ericaceous melastomatáceas. Ferns are present gender jamesoni and numerous mosses, lichens, liverworts and fungi. The tree is the characteristic coloradito (Polylepis serisea).
      Water resources:
      Many rivers are born in the park: Able River, Tucaní, Torondoy shortly.

      • The Cañada de Gonzalez.
      • Able river.
      • Desert Paramo de Piedras Blancas.

      • Mifafí Valley.
      • Zerpa forest sector in the Hechicera.
      • The Páramo Timotes-Tuñame.
      Activities permitted:
      Camping, hiking, mountaineering, trout fishing in season, ride beast, scientific research, hiking, mountain sports, nature tourism, bird watching.
      Prohibited activities:
      Using boats in the lagoons, traveled by motorcycle or pedestrian paths recovery, hunting, fishing, sporting competitions with large number of public, leaving or throwing waste and solid waste removal and alteration of natural history, carrying weapons.
