Location:
In the Andes northeast of State Merida and Barinas West, encompassing part of the municipalities Aricagua, Elias Campo, Liberator, Santos Marquina, Cardenal Quintero Rangel and Merida in the State and municipalities Bolivar and Sucre Pedraza Barinas State.
Area:
276,446 ha.

Protected ecosystems and important natural attractions:
Sierra Nevada National Park is the only region of the country with snow-capped throughout the year.
Wildlife:
Bioclimatic diversity and vegetation types have sprung wide variety of habitats that provide shelter and food for a large number of species of fauna.
Some of these are in danger of extinction, such as the spectacled bear also called the Spectacled Bear Spectacled Bear, the only South American representative of the family Ursidae, puma or mountain lion Felis concolor, the tapir Tapirus terrestris, the limpet Agouti Andean Taczanowski sierrae, the limpet Dinamys branickii truant or pintail, fox
Crab-eating Raccoon Procyon, deer Odocoileus virginianus caramerudo the moor goudotti, the howler monkey Alouatta seniculus, rabbit Sylvilagus brasiliensis meridensis paramo, jaguar Panthera onca, the opossum Didelphis albiventris Andean, Andean deer or locho bricenil Mazama, the Kinkajou cuchicuchi meridensis.
Of the representative of the moor are the fox of the mountains Nasuella gouache olivacea, porcupine Coendou prehensilis and Andean shrew Cryptotis thornasi.
Birds include the great Andean condor Andean Condor, an endangered species, the crested eagle Geranoaetus melanoleucus, owls Glaucidium albitarsus Ciccaba jardinier and the goat of the moors Oxypogon guerinii, Pyrhura Vulture rhodocephala parakeet, cock of peruviana Rupicola saw the helmeted currasow Pauxi pauxi and beautiful butterflies.
Flora:
It consists of the evergreen montane rainforests (Andean cloud forests) that occupy the altitudinal belt between 2,000 and 3,200 meters, which are dense forests of high to medium height with 2 to 3 layers of trees and well-developed understory with a high degree of endemism.
Among the dominant tree species are Hypericum funny bone, the Chispeador Chactolepsis linderiana the Bejaria melotera the avenit Lobelia, the cadillo Lappula and Jamesonia condorcillo canescens gray, the fructicosa Laplacea quindú the saisai Weinmannia jahni, laurel Ocotea sp. moritzii Oreopanax lion's paw, Tampacán Clusia sp. Decussocarpus laso rospigliossi pine and the tree fern Cyathea arborea.
From the 3,000 meters. develops high moorland vegetation, which are herbaceous shrub communities of varying density and height between 0.3 and 2 to 3 m., with an abundance of epiphytes, ferns Jamesonia canescens, bromeliads, orchids, bryophytes (mosses and liverworts) and Espeletia frailejón spp. which is the monarch of this vegetation.
At the foot of the mountain less showy flowers envision as the poplar Lupinus, the Spanish flag and Castelleja fissifolia Senecio formosus tabacote.
The plants, to conserve heat they receive during the day, covered with a lint or fluff, others with thick cuticles reflecting growing as rosettes with stems to protect the shoots negligible wind and cold.
Water resources:
The park is composed of thirteen sub-basins and major river basins along its two sides, two waters drain into the basin of Lake Maracaibo through Chama rivers and Our Lady and eleven great basin drain into the River Orinoco through Apure, in addition to these bodies also shapes the Santo Domingo river, Bumbuna, Ticoporo, curvatio and Paguey.

Activities Permitted:
Hiking, trout fishing, scale, movement in animals, camping, guided walks, interpretive trail, mountain sports, outdoor recreation, picnic, bird watching, gliding activities in the areas of the resorts of La Aguada and Loma Redonda and Plan del Morro.
Prohibited Activities:
Motorbike and camping in areas not allowed.
Schedules and fares:
Visiting hours at the park is between 08:00 am and 05:00 pm To enter the recreation area and the Mucuy activities should be canceled the following fees: Adults Bs 200, Student Bs 100, Bs Children 100, National Andinista hiker and Overnight Bs 200, Hikers and mountaineers Overnight Overseas Bs 1000, Bs Overnight tent 2,000, camped outside recreational areas Bs 500. Parking: Light Vehicle Bs 600, Bs Busetas 600, Bus Bs 2,000.
